Easter at Countdown is pretty delicious😋
I don’t know about you but we have had a fair few Hot Cross Buns already and will certainly have more before Easter Weekend has finished!
For us Easter means making the most of one of the final long weekends of the year and spending time with family, indulging in lots of food and a few extra sweet treats. I often buy way too much when catering for a few extra mouths so there are always leftovers! Rather than considering throwing away delicious morsels like Hot Cross Buns away, I love recreating them into recipes and I’ve teamed up with Countdown to share this Hot Cross Bun Bread and Butter Pudding. It’s a must if you have any spare Hot Cross Buns lying around this year!
You will need:
6 Hot Cross Buns (they can be leftover ones)
1 Cup of Milk
1 T Castor Sugar
75g Chocolate Chips (we used Easter eggs instead so be creative with whatever you have ❤️)
Step 1. Butter the Hot Cross Buns and pop the tops of the buns to one side and roughly chop the bottom half of the buns and pop into a oven proof dish, sprinkle half of your chocolate component onto the roughly chopped buns, then place the ‘tops’ of the buns on top neatly and sprinkle the rest of the chocolate on the top 😋
Step 2. Whisk the milk, eggs and castor sugar together.
Step 3. Pour the mixture evenly over the top.
Step 4. Put into the oven and bake at 150 degrees Celsius for 30 mins 👌🏻
Serve with custard and enjoy ! 😊
Countdown has a great Easter range this year, with heaps of products on price lockdown to help keep things easy over the break – I saw some Chocolate bunnies for $1 each in store! Just remember, stores are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday (with reduced hours on the Thursday and Saturday evening) so it pays to be organised over Easter in the grocery department.
